Ok so first off you’ll have to find some boots in your size with a nice little heel on them to modify. If you have stupidly large feet like me and can’t buy cheap ones at the mall, then I recommend thrift stores, which is where I found these beauties:
Cowboy boots. Incredible.
After you’ve got them the next step is drawing on the shape you want to cut them into. Make sure they’re even before you do any cutting though!
See that faint pencil line? Yeah. Now we cut these bitches.
Once you’ve got your cut up booties, it’s time to cover the spots that you eventually want to be green with tape. Painter’s tape (or masking tape) is the best way to go for this.
As you can see, I drew over the tape the mark the shape I’m intending to make out of it.
Be forewarned, peeling the tape off of these is really fucking annoying. Have some scrap paper at the ready to stick the pieces to once they’re off. Oh, and for big piece that loops around the top of the shoe, make sure you cut it in half via the back of the shoe, not the front! That way your seam will be in the back and less noticeable.
Here’s the patterns I made from the tape. As you can see, I had to change around that back one since I cut it in the wrong spot (like I just mentioned lol) WHOOPS. I also marked the grain-line on all of these to remind myself to cut them on the bias (so your boots have a bit of room to stretch).
(Also for those of you new to this kinda stuff, “NSA” means “no seam allowance”)
Wow, some green bits! I have no idea what my thumb is doing in this picture and I was unable to replicate this pose when I tried. Anyway, you can see here that even with cutting on the bias, the front piece still wasn’t stretchy enough to go over the boot without puckering, so I had to add a few darts. THIS STILL BUGS ME and it’s one of the major reasons I’m not happy with these boots, lol. If you get actual leather bits and mold them to the boot before attaching them then this could look really good, though.
All boot parts finished and ready for attaching. This was the day before the con at this point and I couldn’t be assed to handsew them on, so they’re all glued down with fabric glue (which actually held very well like wow they aren’t going anywhere). If your boots aren’t already black make sure to paint them with black leather paint (at least the areas that are going to show) before doing this step though. Also, cut some little holes so you can attach your grommets to thread your shoelaces through afterwards.
